Plasma (the liquid part of a whole blood donation) is replaced within 24 hours as long as hydration is adequate. There are no scientific studies comparing whole blood to RBC only, but I would expect very similar recovery: not even beginning to increase production to compensate for the initial 5-10 days, an average of 36 days to full recovery, and for some people weeks longer. And as you are aware, for small women, the percentage taken from the whole body's blood supply is larger. Expect to be slower for intense workouts and for your heart rate to be higher than expected for less intense exercise. I started a 12 week training program 3 weeks ago. Tuesday of this week (12/03), I went in for a platelet only donation. I specified that under no circumstances could I do RBC this time around. ( I learned the hard way the huge impact it has on physical abilities). Unfortunately, without my knowing my RBC's were kept as well. So, based on the above recovery times for whole blood, is the same true for RBC's? That last time I donated them it felt like it took about 4-5 weeks to recover.( Female, 27 years, 133 lbs, not my first rodeo with 1/2 marathons and distance running)<br />Coors86https://www.blogger.com/profile/00069928913727732585noreply@blogger.com
